I am really enjoying a new on-line teaching opport I am really enjoying a new on-line teaching opportunity with @thecreativecenternyc in New York City. “Collage & Connect” is a class series I created as a container for social connection, creative play and learning art techniques and art history.

As one of the first arts and health organizations in the United States, The Creative Center at University Settlement has been designing, implementing, and sustaining art programming in a variety of healthcare and community settings since 1994.

The Creative Center provides free, daily art workshops, both in-person and online, for people with cancer, chronic illnesses, and their caregivers.

I’ve been drawing and painting with my dad each we I’ve been drawing and painting with my dad each week. This is a big deal to me. He lost his mobility a few years ago, and can’t do the things he once loved to do.

Honestly, I think he is so bored he was willing to do anything with me. So, I suggested drawing and painting. He’s in his 80’s and has never done anything like this.

He told me initially “I can’t draw.”

I hear that all the time from students. I know otherwise.

So here we are…four weeks into this journey, creating a beautiful sketchbook together. This is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

A beautiful sampling of Camellia flowers created b A beautiful sampling of Camellia flowers created by some of my current Mindful Nature Drawing students.

These drawings and paintings were done in a sketchbook. Calm, slow-paced instruction brings people into the present moment, allows them to experience the creative flow state, to turn down judgment and to be OK with what is.

When we are in this state of mind, the outcome is automatically a beautiful thing.

This is Mindful Nature Drawing — a method I’ve developed over six years of teaching that uses slow, observational drawing as a pathway to presence and creative flow.

Join me on Friday afternoons in April in the cozy Join me on Friday afternoons in April in the cozy Hoyt Arboretum library as we explore the fundamentals of watercolor painting in these weekly classes.

In this series of very beginner-friendly classes, students will learn the basics of mixing and painting with watercolor paints in popular colors for nature drawings. Using just a few paints, we will focus on creating a range of nature-inspired colors using the three primaries of red, yellow and blue, as well as learning techniques for applying paint to paper. Each week will be dedicated to creating a range of hues within a color family: gorgeous greens, beautiful blues, vibrant reds and oranges, and luminous neutrals.

Fridays, 1:30 - 3:30 PM, April 3, 10, 17 and 24

My little collection of horse drawings and paintin My little collection of horse drawings and paintings will travel along with me as the Lunar New Year officially begins today. I’m looking forward to exploring the horse theme via collage, printmaking and stamp carving while working in a smaller, more portable format.

Creating these quick little pieces has been very joyful and fulfilling for me.

My latest drawings are quick little sketches that I reversed and painted with watercolors while waiting for dinner to warm up this evening. I love their simplicity and charm.

I’ve been creating these quick and fun stylized horses as a way to keep my creativity alive while traveling. I’ll continue to share my little horse drawings as we move into the Year of the Horse.

Registration will open soon for my September works Registration will open soon for my September workshop @sitkacenter on the Oregon Coast. “The Way of the Water” will take place on September 8-9, 2026.

Explore the threshold of sand and sea at the nearby Salmon River Estuary and create an accordian-style journal that celebrates the essential element of water and where it meets the land. Connect to the water’s wisdom and significance as you participate in a diverse range of nature journaling techniques and nature connection practices. Participants will create their own folded accordian books and fill them with drawings, watercolor, stamp-carved images, writing and other nature art techniques.

UPDATE: Workshop is full and a waiting list has been started. See the link in my bio for all the details. #artworkshop #natureconnection #creativeretreat
